LIGHT IT YOURSELF’s director began installing lighting projects in 1983 as an “add on” to a landscaping service. With a horticulture degree and an electrician’s background from the military, lighting was the perfect career avenue. Through the ensuing years, Barry established himself as a premier lighting contractor, designing and installing lighting systems in some of the most exclusive homes and commercial properties including Southern Living’s 1999 Idea House. Barry developed innovative lighting techniques including “linear fill” and low voltage area luminaires. Barry was also instrumental in correcting a faulty voltage drop formula used by the industry until the mid 90’s.
LIY's Mission Over the years, many homeowners have been denied ownership of quality lighting systems because they were too pricey and considered a luxury item. Most quality lighting contractors won’t even talk to a client who will not spend a minimum of $1000 to $1500. Our goal is to make quality lighting systems available to every homeowner who desires one.
